David Birkman Cedar, MN USA E-Mail: David.mn@juno.com Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:41:46 AM I'm writing this from a place in Kuwait after having been in Iraq for over 13 months. I have been to the White Oak doin's several times and before being deployed it was my annual event. I love this event and miss the many people I know. I certainly look forward to hopfully going this year when I get back. Look at this site reminds me of good times and pleasent memories rather than the sand and heat among others things here. Thanks for everything you all do and keep up the good work. David, Kimberly, WI USA E-Mail: doc8479@yahoo.com Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 12:42:57 PM I love the web site and I love going to the event. I haven't been there for quite a long time but I still remember the fun times that my family and I had up there. I am hoping to be able to come back there really soon. I want to get the new members to my family involved with it, and hope that they enjoy it as much as I have over the years. Keep up the good work on the post and the web site, and I hope to see everyone up there really soon. GoodThunder, Mn USA E-Mail: swinge1@isd77.k12.mn.us Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 4:01:40 PM Greeting Mr. & Mrs. Atkins, Just a little note from your sister Flora. Thank you for helping me set up the Turkey blind. It was truly wonderful to have you teach me the proper use of the muzzleloader. Have already seen more birds and am looking forward to getting my first? Love your little Sister. Southport, NC USA E-Mail: focusoninfinity@hotmail.com Monday, April 2, 2007 at 10:47:44 PM My Canadian voyageur ancestor to old up-river Mobile, Alabama; was Jean Baptiste Colon dit La Violette, who at Fort Kaskaskia, Illinois Military District; wed Kaskaskia Illini, Ayw-wee-pah-kee-noo-kah; ie., Mme. Catherine E8ipakin8ca Colon; who's daughter, Mme. Henriette Colon Rochon, wed Canadian Charles Rochon, Sr., who 1714, Hollinger's Island, off Mobile, had 1,000 cattle. Baptised 1698, Henriette's godfather was Henri de Tonty, who's brother, Capt. Antoine de Tonty, was godfather to Mme. Rochon's twin brother, Henri Colon (seek his descendants?). The third de Tontey brother, Baron Pierre Alphonse de Tonty; purchased still standing in Canada, the circa 1640's fortified stone home of my ancestor Etienne Trudeau, who's son Maj. Francoise Trudeau, in 1702 built old up-river Mobile's first fort. 1704 Maj. Trudeau wed old Mobile "Pelican Girl" Mme. Jeanne Louise Burel Trudeau, who's sisters were also "Pelican Girls". Mme. Genivieve Burel Trepagnier wed Claude Trapagnier, and Mme. Marguerite Burel Dardenne wed Gilbert Dardenne. Their mother, Mme. Marguerite Roussel Burel, was a Canadian "King's Daughter" by her first marriage to a Canadian soldier, and her descendants can join the descentants of Canadian "King's Daughters" society, La Societe des Filles du Roi, c/o Yvonne Weber, President; 5551 Mangrum Drive; Huntington Beach, CA 92649. I am a member. Their father, Etienne Burel, said the Canadian governer was corrupt, and was banished to France. A hearing was held, his accusations substantiated; Etienne and wife, were made chaperones of the ship "Pelican" to old Mobile where they were Mobile's first inn keepers. Jim Miller, Na-poo-pah-too-wah / Ne-p8-pa-t8-8a, or "Walkslowly", meaning turtle. Post Script: Jean Baptiste Colon and first wife Ayw-wee-pah-kee-noo-kad, and second wife Mdm. Marguerite Preau Colon, have many descendants in today's modern Mobile, though most likely don't know it. Mme. Marguerit Praux Colon had Mme. Marie Anne Perrine Colon Wiltz, wife of Laurent Conrad Wiltz. Colon's second wife was the daughter of Jean and Mme. Ann Prevost Preau. Grandville, MI USA E-Mail: LHaney6@msn.com Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 9:37:50 AM Thank you for such an informative site! I am currently doing research on Theresa Marcot Schindler (born 1776) who was the sister of Madam Magdeline LaFromboise (Mackinac Island) whom it appears died in Green Bay, WI Oct. 31, 1855 and was buried on the Island. Our chapter of the U.S. Daughters 1812 is currently looking into refurbishing/replacing her tombstone in St. Ann's Cemetery, M.I. and which to confirm her date of death and gather as much information on her life as possible including her fur trading business. She was married first to Pierre LaSalie~re and 2nd to George Schindler. Thank you! Cerro Gordo, IL USA E-Mail: dan.lybarger@gmail.com Sunday, August 13, 2006 at 8:53:03 PM Miigwech for all you do to keep the story alive. Toluca, IL USA E-Mail: daylily1812@yahoo.com Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 4:21:28 PM Greetings from Lorraine and Julia Schwass from the land of the Peorias in the Illinois country. We got our registration info. this week, and we are again ready to make the long trip from central Illinois for the week of rendezvous - it wouldn't be summer without it! The episode of Globetrekker has played on our local PBS station in Peoria (twice); White Oak got the last 5-6 minutes of the program. Quill (and Baby) got some air time, as did the voyageur camp. I taped it, in case someone needs the video. See you at the beginning of rendezvous week- Lorraine Schwass Page: 3
